The Mitochondria - Biomorphic Parametric Sculpture by TerraLiving, a preserved moss terrarium

Twin "Mitochondria"; photos were taken the night before flying to an avid collector from Germany.

"The Mitochondria" - a parametric botanical sculpture in geometrical glass vessel by TerraLiving.

Mitochondria are "nuclear reactors" or powerhouses of the cell. They are double membrane-bound organelles found in most eukaryotic organisms (ranging from plants to animals).

Without mitochondria, advanced life forms like us, humans, and our world will never exist.

Through an expression known as biomorphism, our designers create artistic design elements based on naturally occurring patterns, in this case, the very structure of mitochondria.

Generated via computation design, "The Mitochondria's" parametric structure planes are inspired by the "cristae" (inner mitochondrial membrane folds). In contrast, the geometrical glass sculpture and base signify the outer membrane of mitochondria.

By transplanting each parametric plane with our ZERO Moss to form a complete botanical sculpture, we hope to deliver a surreal and meaningful art piece that allows its collector to indulge in the miracle of life.

*Important note: This is a preserved moss terrarium, an approach where we present our creativity for botanical arts with moss, preserved in our lab. They look fresh and lively, but they are non-living, thus free of pests and any form of maintenance.
